Audacity 2.1.2 and El Capitan I wanted to update Audacity, but the 2.1.2 version (from the official download site ) wouldn't run: I got can't open application Audacity. There were lots of suggestions (for example here ) but no joy. Alternatively the files may be dragged to the Audacity icon in the folder where you have Audacity installed, dragged into the open Audacity window or imported using the Audacity menus. (OS X Pre El Capitan) iTunes files cannot be opened from Media Music in the Sidebar in Audacity's file open dialogs.
- Peter 24Nov16: The 1.6.6b.dmg Soundflower link is a dead link. The 2.0b2 link seems to work but refers only to El Capitan - is this still the right link for Sierra? Bill 25Nov2016: 2.0b2 apparently works with Yosemite / Mavericks / El Capitan. It is unknown if it works with Sierra.
- Recently I bought a Mac for myself as Christmas gift. Since I'm a beginner, I don't know many tools that can be used to record audio on Mac OS X El Capitan. I have searched the related info and got some suggestions. Audacity is great, but it is too hard for me, the edit functions made me confused. Lots of users recommend QuickTime, but I failed.

I looked for spawn_via_launchd() failed, errno=111 and found this which recommends reinstalling OS X (or should that be 'macOS' now?), which seems a bit drastic. Another suggestion there is to repair the disk permissions, which Disk Utility won't do any more; you can do it from the command line. I tried that, no luck.
Finally, I thought of open -a, and (because it's a permission problem) sudo:
This failed because the application isn't recognised by Gatekeeper, so off to System Preferences / Security & Privacy / General and (temporarily!) Allow apps downloaded from anywhere. Download google chrome version 35.
